Shelter – The zinc shed

We have just finished creating a sculpture – a zinc shelter – as part of the Y Lle Celf exhibition on the Eisteddfod grounds in Boduan this year.
This was organized and financed by Y Panel Celf Eisteddfod Llŷn and Eifionydd 2023.
This zinc hut is a cozy place to just be, close the curtains, reflect, meditate and enjoy experiencing a quiet moment away from the hustle and bustle of the eisteddfod field. Inside you will see that it is as dark as can be, apart from the occasional perforated hole in the zinc where you see small rays of light shining in like stars in the sky.
The idea was to create a shelter inspired by the lovely and typical zinc sheds and huts of Pen Llŷn. It is also a small stargazing shelter, inspired by Ynys Enlli which was recently recognised as an International Dark Sky Sanctuary – the first to be awarded in Europe.
This commission was won to create a quiet shelter on the grounds of the Eisteddfod, a joint project, family members – my brother Robin Evans of Mona Engineering in Llangefni, and Joseph Evans Beckett my son who is studying Graphics now in his third year in Norwich and myself Ann Catrin Evans designer, blacksmith and jeweller.
