The Art Foundation Course 41 years Anniversary exhibition
January 22nd – March 26th
This show opens on the 22nd of January, I do hope there is a private view and I will invite you!
After studying under the fabulous Peter Prendergast and wonderful Moira Muir in Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen I went to study for a year on the Art Foundation Course at Bangor 86-87 we were taught to look more carefully, to study every detail, and be wildly experimental.
I studied in the early days of the foundation course, when the core founders were still on board Ed Davies, Phil Mumford, Peter Prendergast, Paul Davies, Graham Meredith, Alan Brunsdon amongst others who formed a tight teaching core. We were based in the dilapidated but glorious Coleg Normal Buildings, where my mother had previously studied her Education degree. A lovely full circle.
The teaching was full on, I loved every minute of it. Every corner of art and design was covered and I decided 3d design was my thing over painting which I also really enjoyed.
Phil Mumphord and Alan Brunston were the amazing duo who taught me so much in such a short amount of time in my specialist field. The teaching was based on the Bauhaus philosophy of exploration in every medium.
I’ve worked in the applied arts as a profession since graduating in 1989. I work on a variety of scale from small jewellery to large scale public art and sculpture.
I’ve been based in Glynllifon for 31 years and opened siop iard 9 years ago.
Pieces have been bought by Public Collections as well as private collectors and I exhibit regularly.
A Graduate of Brighton University 1987-9
I design and make large architectural and sculptural metalwork, framed smaller artworks, and unusual iron and precious metal jewellery.
I’ve previously made the door furniture of the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff, and several Eisteddfod crowns as well as winning the gold medal for Craft Masterpiece in 1993 and 1997.
I’ve shown and taught internationally, and have a studio and shop in Caernarfon North Wales.
The jewellery is unusually made from iron and precious metals, rich and dark metallic combinations, glimmering gems and golden details of smooth burnished bronze droplets
The door knockers are one of my signature design collections. I call them jewellery for architecture.
